Lois Vandagriff
Lois Smith Vandagriff, 87, of Oak Ridge, TN, passed away on October 28, 2022 with family at her side.
She was born on June 7, 1935 in Madisonville, TN, the daughter of Marvin and Hester Smith. Lois retired as a teacher from the Oak Ridge School System where she was an active member of the local chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa. She also served as a teacher with the Department of Defense Schools in Berlin and West Germany, and taught in Sarasota, FL and Denver, CO early in her career. She was a proud Carson-Newman University alumna.
Lois’ passions included quilting and travel. She was a member of the Ritzy Thimble Quilt Guild and won several awards at the Tennessee Valley Fair and various national quilt shows. She traveled six continents and took over 20 cruises, where she loved serving as a cruise lecturer along with her husband. Her only travel regret was that she never convinced NASA to take her to the moon.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerre. She is survived by her daughter, Jill Vandagriff, of Oak Ridge, TN; son, Kerry Vandagriff, of Knoxville, TN; sister, Cindy Moser (Jim); two grandsons, Glenn Vandagriff and Logan Vandagriff, and nephew Andrew Moser.
The family asks that any memorials be made in her name to “The Carson-Newman Fund” at www.cn.edu/giving.
